in 1975, the menominee warrior society, a militant group of local native american activists, seized control of the property, which prompted a 34-day stand-off against the federal government. eventually, in exchange for surrendering to authorities, the catholic church agreed to sell the land to the menominee nation for $1.
this mansion was abandoned five months later and it has been rotting away ever since.
